Drive a '91 BMW 325i (E30) I'm slowly sorting, and a '08 WRX hatch that was supposed to be a temporary winter car. Spoiler: it was not temporary.

Day job pays for the garage. Nights are sockets, bad coffee, and arguing with bolts that shouldn't be that tight.

Finally got poly rear bushings into the E30 this weekend.

Steering feels like it actually read the manual for the first time. Turn-in is sharper, less of that floaty old-German wandery thing on the freeway.

Tradeoff: my lower back has filed a formal complaint, and I may have invented three new swear words while lining up the trailing arm bolts.

If you're on the fence about bushings on an old chassis — do it. Just budget for ibuprofen and a second afternoon you didn't plan for.

WRX people, be honest with me:

Valve cover gasket on the '08 hatch — DIY on jack stands in a driveway, or just eat the indie shop bill and keep my sanity?

I've done E30 stuff all day, but Subarus have a talent for turning a "two-hour job" into a parts-store treasure hunt.

What am I underestimating here?

Hot take (fight me gently):

If your car meet has a VIP rope, bottle service, and a DJ louder than the exhausts… that's not a car meet. That's a nightclub with parking.

I'll take a dirty lot, good people, open hoods, and someone who actually wants to talk about why your idle hunts over a light show any day.

Garage status report:

• E30 325i — cold start still occasionally lean. Wideband says "trust issues." Next up: smoke test + cleaning grounds I already cleaned (classic).
• WRX — still leaking personality from the valve cover area. Parts on the way. Maybe.
• Me — one bruised knuckle, two cups of coffee, zero regrets.

Rolled the E30 in before the lot filled up. Saw a clean NA Miata on coilovers, an R32 that sounded like a threat, and some kid with a clipboard asking everyone what "OEM+" means (respect for asking).

Talked bushings with two other BMW guys for like 25 minutes. Nobody flexed. Nobody blasted a playlist over the exhausts. Perfect.
